Let’s start things off with a disclaimer – I love Android phones. Last year I left the iPhone and switched to Android largely because of the amazing usefulness of Google Voice, and only Android devices truly let you take over your phone with a Google Voice app and have the perfect experience. When Android first debuted on the HTC Dream (also known as the G1) back in October of 2008, it was deemed an “iPhone Killer.” While it didn’t quite slay Apple’s handset, it was the first step in a revolution against the tyrannous iPhone. The initial Android platform bested the iPhone OS on several levels, but lacked some key functionalities that the iPhone could provide. Since then, Android has grown – not only meeting all of the functionalities of the iPhone, but besting it in nearly all aspects from an extensive list of devices to a growing Android Marketplace.

With the dropping of the Google Nexus One plans for Verizon and Sprint, it is pretty obvious that Google’s phone store experience had rather limited success. Today Andy Rubin posted on the Official Google Blog that Google is moving the Nexus one to retail locations (no actual stores yet announced) and will eventually stop selling handsets via the web store.

The latest Android phone of this bunch comes from Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Wireless and it’s called the Droid Incredible. We have one in our hands and we thought we’d give you a more in-depth look at HTC’s latest and greatest.

We’ve witnessed reports suggesting that Android consumption is on the rise while iPhone use is slipping, and it’s easy to see why: every other week a new Android phone hits the market, while Apple makes iPhone users wait a year or more to see new hardware.

Google may have a shot at outshining the iPad if it can come up with a design for a robust tablet that’s capable of doing a lot more than providing entertainment, suggested 451 Group analyst Chris Hazelton. “Kindle was 1.0,” he observed. “iPad is 2.0, while Google needs to be 3.0, where the tablet is a computing device, not a media device.”

MOBILE RESEARCH FIRM Flurry has confirmed Google’s botched launch of the Nexus One smartphone with its latest figures.
The analytics firm acquired the data for its latest report, rather worryingly, from having its code embedded in 80 per cent of applications on both the Iphone and Android platforms. AT&T’s foray into Android phones seems almost like it is a marketing campaign for Apple’s iPhone. It certainly doesn’t seem to be very friendly to Google, anyway.
Last week, it was announced that AT&T was replacing the market-leading, Google search on the Google Android-powered Motorola Backflip with Yahoo’s search. WHAT?

Android has been a pretty popular mobile OS for Google, and it’s been a hit with customers, developers and cell manufacturers, too. However, it’s hard to imagine that it’s this popular.
